2024 Summer Camp Schedule/Details

July 2 – 5 (4 day week)

Golf & Hockey Camp (Recreational Level) – 8-15 year olds – Full Day
Kids will spend the morning at NHA doing some hockey skills training, playing some 3 on 3 scrimmages and more.  After lunch they will be transported to Timberwolf Golf Club where they will have some fun on their practice facilities, get group lessons from Tom Clark, and play a 9 hole round.

Elite Offensive Development Mini-Camp – 11-16 year olds – Half Day (afternoons)
AA/AAA level kids will be working on different skills each day with the level of difficulty increasing so that the athletes compete outside their comfort zone. Along with core skills, the program will introduce athletes to in-game concepts (skills) which are critical for success at the Junior, University or Professional level. The goal of the programs is to teach athletes how to execute various skills and then be able to consistently perform them under pressure at top speed.

Scott Murray Goalie Development Camp – 8-18 year olds – Full Day
Led by Scott Murray – Washington Capitals Head Goalie Development Coach and Stanley Cup winner – young goaltenders will spend a minimum of 2 hours per day on ice getting instruction at a 2:1 student to instructor ratio.  Off ice will see goalie specific fitness education, some fun on the sport court, and daily Zoom guest talks with a great line up of speakers (currently our goal is to have Buffalo Sabres goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, Carolina Hurricanes Goalie Development Coach Jason Muzzatti & Sudbury Wolves goalie/Carolina Hurricanes prospect Jakob Vondras).

July 15 – 19

NHL Stars Camp @ NHA – 6-16 year olds – Full Day
We pull out all the stops for this one!  Last year’s camp featured appearances from Nick & Marcus Foligno, Stanley Cup winner Andrew Desjardins, Tyler Bertuzzi, Derek Mackenzie, Damien Giroux, Quinton Byfield, Isaak Phillips, Jack Thompson, ‘Coach Chippy’ and more!!!  Kids will get to skate with their NHL heroes, play on the court, play on the golf simulator, and a whole lot more.   The name of the game this week is fun and making memories.

NHL Stars Camp @ Countryside Arena – 7-9 / 10-12 / 13-15 year old groups – 2 hours/day
Kids who sign up for the Countryside camp will get one hour/day on the ice with one NHL Star per day, a chance to get photos/autographs, and an hour of dryland fitness training too.

July 22 – 26

Defense Focused Mini Camp – 8-15 year olds – Half Day (mornings)
Skills instruction with a focus on defensive positioning, tactical play, puck retrievals, ‘surfing’, defensive edgework, ‘walking the line’, puck battle tactics, one on one positioning, gap control and more.  This camp is perfect for any players looking to work on their game in a fun environment.  An Elite Level AA/AAA camp is offered August 26-30.

Multi-Sport Mini Camp – 6-13 year olds – Half Day (afternoons)
Kids will get to spend a 3 hour block at NHA each day this week on the ice (some skills training, some 3 on 3 scrimmaging), on the sport court (playing a variety of sports – basketball, soccer, etc.), on the golf simulator, in the event/video room (team building exercises, sports education videos, etc) and more!  The session will run 12:30-3:30 daily.

July 29 – August 2

HomeGrown Hockey Stars Camp @ NHA (ELITE) – 13-18 year olds – Full Day
Tessa Bonhomme hosts many of her Gold Medal winning friends at NHA for an elite level hockey camp exclusively for girls.  Last year we were visited by Hayley Wickenheiser, Rebecca Johnston, Jamie-Lee Rattray and Erin Ambrose. We also had Zoom meetings with Marie-Phillipe Poulin, sports nutritionist Sylvie Tetrault, and NCAA Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Nadine Muzerall!

HomeGrown Hockey Stars Camp @ Countryside – 7-9 / 10-12 / 13-16 year olds – 2 hours/day
Kids who sign up for the Countryside camp will get one hour/day on the ice with one women’s hockey per day, a chance to get photos/autographs, and an hour of dryland fitness training too.

August 6 – 9 (4 day week)

‘Dingers & Dangles’ Baseball and Hockey Camp – 7 – 13 year olds – Full Day
A new camp this year – we have partnered up with the Baseball Academy to offer an exciting chance for kids to spend each morning at NHA doing some on ice skills training, off ice dryland conditioning and then heading to the Baseball Academy after lunch to work on their HitTrax machine, at their skill stations and more.  The week culminates with Game Day Friday when we will play some 3 on 3 scrimmages at the rink in the morning and then go to an area baseball field for a game in the afternoon!  Between instruction from former Sudbury Wolves Associate Coach Darryl Moxam at NHA and Jean Gilles (JG) Larocque (Ontario Youth Team Head Coach for 2023, Philadelphia Phillies Associate Scout, 18U Voyageurs Head Coach) at the Baseball Academy, these kids are going to be spoiled!

Goaltending Development Mini Camp – 11-18 year olds – Half Day
NHA Lead Goaltending Coach Matty Mayhew will start the kids day with some stretching/yoga on the sport court before being split into two groups – one on the ice for an hour of skills instruction (shooting for a 2:1 goalie to instructor ratio, but definitely no worse than 3:1), and one in the fitness centre or event room doing a variety of dryland training (including with Robert Esmie) and video review.

2 x Basketball Skills Development Camp – 6-8 / 9-11 year olds – 2 hours/day
NHA will welcome kids onto the Sport Court this week for some basketball instruction, skill development, fun games, 3 on 3 games and more!  6-8 year olds will play from 10:00-12:00 daily and 9-11 year olds will play from 1:00-3:00.

August 12 – 16

Multi-Sport Camp – 6 – 13 year olds – Full Day
Kids will get fun filled days of hockey (2 hours on ice daily), court sports (basketball, soccer, pickleball, volleyball, and more), golf on the simulator, team building events & sports videos in the event/video room and more!

August 19 – 23

Sudbury Wolves (and hopefully Sudbury Five) Camp – 7 – 13 year olds – Full Day
This week Sudbury Wolves Sports Entertainment (SWSE) takes over NHA for an action packed week of hockey fun and more!  Wolves players and coaches will be on the ice with kids this week working on skills training and having fun, signing autographs, taking pictures and more.  We don’t yet have things finalized, but our hope is to also have some presence from some of the Sudbury Five players and coaches to have a more defined basketball element to this week as well.

August 26 – 30

Golf & Hockey Camp (Elite Level) – 10-16 year olds – Full Day
Kids will spend the morning at NHA doing some hockey skills training, getting dryland training instruction and more.  After lunch they will be transported to Timberwolf Golf Club where they will hone their skills on their practice facilities, get group lessons from Tom Clark, and play a 9 hole round.  This camp is tailored more for the AA/AAA hockey player and skilled golfer.  For House League/A level hockey players and recreational golfers the July 2-5 camp would be recommended.

Elite Defensive Development Mini-Camp – 11-16 year olds – Half Day (afternoons)
AA/AAA level kids will be working on different skills each day with the level of difficulty increasing so that the athletes compete outside their comfort zone. Skills instruction with a focus on defensive positioning, tactical play, puck retrievals, ‘surfing’, defensive edgework, ‘walking the line’, puck battle tactics, one on one positioning, gap control and more. Along with core skills, the program will introduce athletes to in-game concepts (skills) which are critical for success at the Junior, University or Professional level. The goal of the programs is to teach athletes how to execute various skills and then be able to consistently perform them under pressure at top speed.
